Summer months the river can get some pressure from all the canoe rentals so I only fish it in the winter to stay away from crowds and slow fishing. I would say this is the closest thing to getting the real experience like out west for fly fishing a spring feed creek/river here in the Ozarks. You will feel like it's just you and the river with a few trophy brown trout to target on any given day when throwing articulated streamer patterns. Not only that, but the scenery is truly amazing when it comes to eagle watching. I've seen up to five in one day floating a 4 mile stretch. The upper part is a rainbow trout fishery for the most part and the lower end all the way to Dawt Mill offers up some really good brown trout streamer fishing. I'm sure several patterns will work, but I have found some of Kelly Galloup streamers like the bottoms up, peanut envy and fat heads that look like the zoo cougars can round up some big boys. The ones that have a little floatation in the fly can fish really well in shallow runs with deep drops, but still being able to fish them skinny water leaving no water unfished. I usually run a 250 grain with a 25 foot sink head on a TFO Axiom 8wt.
